Holly Hill, FL – Holly Hill Police Chief Mark Barker simply calls it “disgusting” after the arrest of a couple who had children in their home with a decomposing human body.
Officers forced their way into the home at 639 Center Avenue (pictured) Thursday night after they were called to do a well-being check on a disabled female at the address. Community Families, Inc., a Department of Children and Families contractor, had been unable to contact the woman since early last month. They provided services for the woman.
The body of the unidentified woman was found in the bedroom.
38-year-old Todd LaDuke and 32-year-old Nicole Scalise, along with a 4-year-old child, were occupying the room across from that bedroom. The couple had two other children-6 and 11-also living there. Police also found dog feces and urine in the home and evidence of drug abuse.
The couple admitted to using the dead woman’s E.B.T. and Social Security benefits and police think they did so even after she died. They’ve been charged with child neglect and other counts and are at the Volusia Branch Jail.
The children are in D.C.F. custody.
An autopsy to determine the woman’s manner and cause of death will be done on Friday.
