New Smyrna Beach Boy Dies After Being Hit By Car

09-12 nsb bike accident

New Smyrna Beach, FL - An 11-year-old boy has died after he was hit by a car while riding his bicycle.

The Florida Highway Patrol says Mark Moore of New Smyrna Beach died Wednesday afternoon at Arnold Palmer Children’s Hospital in Orlando.

Moore had been at the hospital since September 12, when he was hit by a 2002 Honda Civic around 6:30pm that evening at the intersection of Corbin Park Road and Paige Avenue, south of State Road 44 and west of Interstate 95.

Witnesses told troopers that the Civic – driven by 19-year-old Katelin Evans of New Smyrna Beach – was traveling south on Corbin Park when she approached the Paige intersection.

Investigators say she hit Moore as he rode his bike west on Paige, throwing him off in the process.

F.H.P. also noted in their report that traffic on Paige Avenue had a stop sign.

Moore was airlifted to Halifax Medical Center from the scene and was transferred to Arnold Palmer from there.

F.H.P. Sergeant Kim Montes tells WNDB charges are pending at this time against Evans as their investigation is ongoing. She was not hurt in the accident.

The accident report states that the boy wasn’t wearing a helmet when the accident occurred and that alcohol was not a factor.
