Daytona Beach, FL - A 29-year-old man is in jail after Daytona Beach police believe he came all the way from Southwest Florida to kill his estranged wife.
Tolga Miran (picture courtesy Volusia County Jail) of 4th Street Southwest in Lehigh Acres remains in custody on a $5,000 bond for grand theft auto charges.
The Daytona Beach Police Department says the Lee County man was caught around 6pm Tuesday at the Daytona Toyota on North Nova Road.
It all started when 23-year-old Charles Nagy – an employee at the dealership – called 911 to report that his red truck was stolen from the parking lot while he was at work.
Soon after Nagy reported it, a co-worker spotted a man driving his truck back into the dealership’s parking lot.
Once officers had arrived at the scene, Miran told them a man named “Mike” told him he could take the truck, but Nagy told them that wasn’t the case.
D.B.P.D. believes Miran took the truck earlier in the day after driving a rented Chevy Impala to the dealership and leaving it nearby.
Detectives also say Miran’s story kept changing when questioned and they found suspicious items in both vehicles, including latex gloves, a filet knife, a screw driver, duct tape and panty hose.
Miran also had a gun – a 9-millimeter Glock – in his possession and a gun permit, according to the incident report.
Officers found out soon after Miran’s arrest that he had an estranged wife who lives in the Daytona Beach area.
When reached, she told D.B.P.D. Miran was probably trying to find her so he could “kill her”, at which point they advised her to get a protection order against him.
