DeLand, FL - DeLand Police responded to a call about the finding of possible human remains around 11 p.m. this past Saturday (February 29). The person who called in was off-roading in the area of West MacKenzie Road and Summit Drive.

DeLand Police Chief Jason Umberger said during a press conference this morning that investigators were able to determine that the remains were a white male but could not determine the age.

The Chief said his investigators worked the area as a crime scene but were unable to discover the identity of the remains. "We were not able to identify the person as of yet due to the decomposition of the body. The scene was worked with as much evidence as possible being gathered from the surrounding area."

An autopsy is taking place today to hopefully determine the identity and the cause of death according to Umberger. He said there is evidence of foul play but would not elaborate. There is a current missing person's report but said the race doesn't match. "That was initially what we thought, we did have this missing person's report but that's for a black male and what we found is definitely a white male."

Umberger also said that the investigation will continue but the results from the Medical Examiner’s Office will hopefully identify the remains.
