VCBS Continues Search For Missing Swimmer

UPDATE: October 26 - Volusia County Beach Safety reports that the victim's body washed ashore late last night (October 25) about nine miles north of where the man disappeared. He is identified as 27-year-old Elijah Rashad Thomas.

Volusia County Beach Safety Ocean Rescue Public Information Officer Captain Tamra Malphurs said the death is expected to be ruled a drowning but will not be confirmed until the autopsy is performed.

Daytona Beach, FL -  The search continues today for a 27-year-old Ocala man who went missing after being caught in a rip current yesterday (October 24) afternoon in Daytona Beach.

Volusia County Beach Safety Captain Tammy Malphurs says the man and other family members got caught in the rip current around 12:30 p.m. about two miles north of Mason Avenue. Everyone made it back to shore safely except for the 27-year-old man.

Beach Safety searched extensively, with numerous lifeguards, two rescue jet ski's, Air One, and a drone. The search is underway again this morning.
