Daytona Beach, FL - Daytona Beach International Airport is running on backup generators after a transformer issue briefly cut the power off early this afternoon.
Volusia County spokeswoman Michelle Coats tells WNDB the incident happened around 12:30pm Tuesday.
“A transformer on a power pole near to the airport arched, causing a power outage,” Coats said.
Coats said power to DBIA was only off for a few seconds thanks to backup power generators kicking in place, and other than the air conditioning shutting down, all systems are working as normal.
“It didn’t disrupt any commercial service at the airport,” Coats added.
Florida Power & Light workers are currently fixing the issue, which should be resolved no later than 5 o’clock, according to Coats.
Coats also added that some of the down escalators are shut down at this time, but they are not sure if that had to do with the power outage. Workers are trying to repair those escalators.
