Port Orange, FL - One Daytona Beach man is dead and another is in serious condition after state troopers say their vehicle struck a power pole late at night on Valentine's Day.
Investigators with the Florida Highway Patrol (FHP) say a sedan driven by a 51-year-old man was driving northbound on Tomoka Farms Road towards Town West Boulevard on Sunday night (February 14th).
Around 10:40 p.m., the car drove off the road for an unknown reason, according to investigators. At that point, the driver overcorrected, drove across the roadway, and struck a power pole.
The driver was pronounced dead at the scene by crews while a 17-year-old passenger was taken to Halifax Health Medical Center in Daytona Beach for treatment. A report from FHP lists the passenger in serious condition. Their state as of Monday morning (February 15th) is unclear.
The crash remains under investigation.
