Bunnell, FL - Flagler County Sheriff Rick Staly says some people just don't learn, after 22-year-old John Mercurio was arrested for the eighth time last Friday (Janaury 27).

Deputies responded to a reported burglary attempt on January 14, 2021 at a residence on County Road 305. The reporting person told them that an unidentified white male cut her fence to gain access onto her property. When she confronted him, he shoved her than jumped into a vehicle and fled the scene. The victim was able to provide a detailed description of both the suspect and the vehicle.

FCSO General Assignment Unit detectives located the vehicle involved, a search warrant was completed and processed by the FCSO Crime Scene Investigations Unit. Through various investigative means, detectives identified the suspect as Mercurio, who has been in the Flagler County Jail eight times. Some of his recent charges include: Driving with License Suspended, Petit Theft, Grand Theft, Trespassing after Warning, Retail Theft, Violation of Probation, Battery, and
Brawling, as well as other charges.

Mercurio is now charged with robbery, burglary, theft, and criminal mischief. He is being held on a $51,000 bond.

“Mercurio is a guy who has a history of criminal activity in Flagler County,” Sheriff Rick Staly said. “He has been arrested numerous times and it still has not sunk in – if you break the law in Flagler, we will find you and you will go to jail! I want to commend the hard work displayed by our deputies, detectives and Crime Scene Investigators that ultimately resulted in getting this guy off our streets and back behind bars where he belongs. Now it’s time for the courts to seriously deal with him.”
