AAA: Gas Prices Drop After Eight-Cent Hike

Daytona Beach, FL - Florida's gas prices are drifting lower yet again after a brief eight-cent hike at the pumps.

But that relief won't be seen in Volusia and Flagler.

Prices have also "ping-ponged" the recent weeks according to AAA. The state average increased then declined every other week for the past month; bouncing between $2.40 and $2.50 per gallon.

"The state average could fall to $2.41 per gallon by the end of the week, based on recent declines in the price of wholesale gasoline," said Mark Jenkins, spokesman, AAA.

Jenkins also said that recent data from the US Energy Information Administration is suggesting that refineries are conducting seasonal maintenance, which had a throttling effect on prices.

Crude oil prices remain low, amidst ongoing tension between the United States and China, which continues to worry the market.

According to AAA's data, Volusia County drivers haven't seen much relief at the pump. Current averages around the county sit around $2.47 per gallon of regular unleaded, which is a six-cent jump compared to last week's $2.41 average.

Flagler drivers are also seeing higher prices closer to $2.48. Both counties remain above the state average of $2.46.

The current national average is $2.64.
