Daytona Beach, FL - If you heard the Volusia Sheriff's Office (VSO) Air One helicopter early this morning, they were following a car thief who drove around Daytona Beach for about 40 minutes. Holly Hill PD and Daytona Beach PD were also involved in the arrest of 20-year-old Joshua Cummings

According to VSO, deputies had set up a perimeter for a stolen vehicle call. About 3;30 a.m., an SUV approached the perimeter, ignored a deputy's instructions to find another route, and then fled at high speed. Deputies say the driver, identified as Cummings drove recklessly around the city while Air One monitored from overhead.

A successful stop stick deployment eventually stopped the SUV, at which point, Cummings got out of the car and ran.  K-9 units were involved and Cummings gave up after about 10 minutes.

This is Cummings fourth arrest since  August 2020. He's already on probation for grand theft of a motor vehicle. He's now charged with fleeing or attempting to elude law enforcement, grand theft of a motor vehicle, resisting an officer without violence, driving without a valid license, and violation of probation. Bond on the new charges is $21,000.
