Argument Over Lawn Service Ends With One Arrest

Palm Coast, FL - An argument over a lawn service blowing leaves into the suspect's yard ends with him going to jail. Flagler County Sheriff's deputies say that 44-year-old Charles Varner had a strong odor of alcohol coming off his person, watery, bloodshot eyes, and slurred speech when they arrived to question him.

Deputies responded to a call about a disturbance with weapons on Saturday (Nov. 14) afternoon. The complaint was from Varner's neighbor, who told deputies that he (Varner) came outside, appearing to be very drunk/high, "and started to slur about an event that happened the day before." Varner said, "I will show what will happen." He walked into his home and came back with a gun which he pointed at the victim, his wife, and a neighbor. The victim had a video of the incident which was turned over to police. The neighbor that was visiting the victim corroborated his account of the incident.

Deputies took Varner to the hospital to be checked out, where he refused treatment. As a deputy was escorting him back to his patrol car, he pulled away from the deputy and swore at him, adding a charge of threatening a law enforcement officer. The incident report shows that Varner also said to the deputy, "Wait, when I get out I'm gonna come for you and put a bullet in your head."

Based on witness statements and the facts, Varner is also charged with Domestic Assault, two counts of Aggravated Battery with a Deadly Weapon, and Child Abuse. His bond was set at $17,000 and he has since bonded out.
