Arizona Man Charged With Kidnapping Volusia Teen

Daytona Beach, FL - A 41-year-old man is in custody after he tried to fly a 13-year-old female back to his home in Arizona.

The Daytona Beach Police Department (DBPD) said Christopher Reed was arrested in Charlotte, North Carolina thanks to help from the Volusia Sheriff's Office (VSO), the US Department of Homeland Security and Charlotte police. According to investigators, Reed and the female teen had flown to Charlotte from Daytona Beach and were waiting on another flight at Charlotte-Douglas International Airport when authorities found them and arrested Reed.

A release from DBPD said the Holly Hill Police Department was first tipped off about Reed last September after the girl's mother learned that he and her daughter met on Instagram and were exchanging inappropriate photos with one another.

Investigators later learned that Reed flew to Daytona Beach from Arizona last Thursday (October 29th) in hopes of meeting the victim in person—which he did after he picked her up from school that day, with her consent. The mother of the victim contacted police when her daughter did not come home from school.  Daytona Beach police became involved after the girl failed to show up for school—which is located in Daytona—the following day.

Investigators with VSO learned that the victim and Reed had taken a flight to Charlotte and were waiting for a continuing flight to Arizona.

Reed is currently held in custody on a kidnapping charge, but the Daytona Beach Police Department said additional charges are pending. The agency is currently working with the State Attorney's Office to determine what those charges are.

Reed's photo and booking information are not available at this time.
