Author Of Apology Letter To Young Victim Sentenced To 45 Years

DeLand, FL - He thought an apology letter would make up for his crime, but a judge thought 45 years behind bars would be a better solution.

That’s the story now for Wes Brough, who will now spend the next almost five decades behind bars in a state prison. His arrest came in April 2021 after investigators received a tip that he may have uploaded suspected child pornography to the internet. Investigators came to learn that it was Brough in those clips, and the victim was a 5-year-old girl.

He ultimately confessed to the crime in an interview with detectives, that’s after saying the last time he had inappropriate contact with the victim was just days before speaking to police. He also wrote an apology letter to the victim, signed as “Uncle Wes.”

Court documents from the Volusia County Clerk of Courts show Brough took a plea deal for his charge of failing to register as a sex offender. That plea deal earned him five years of his 45 year sentence—imposed by Judge Dawn Nichols. It’s likely that Brough took another plea deal for his other charges, but the case regarding his sex crimes is currently restricted by the courts.

It took almost a year to get to this point. Brough had remained in the Volusia County Branch Jail since he was arrested in April. Since then, his case was in court about nine separate times, and six of those times it was continued by the defense.
