Big Donation To Make Safe Zone A Reality

Daytona Beach, FL - The newest member of the First Step Shelter Board, Rose Ann Tornatore hinted at something big happening at today's (January 27) meeting. She pledged $250,000 toward the building of a permanent Safe Zone. A portion of the money will come from Tornatore personally, the rest will come from her business, Wholesale Lighting.

Board member Chase Tramont said that the Safe Zone will be built on the west side of the  building.  The first thing that will be done is a safety assessment that's been requested from the Daytona Beach Police Department. Board member Dwight Selby suggested a small temporary safe zone on the west side of the building until the permanent one is created.  The Board voted 3-3, which means the motion failed. Tramont said that he expects more discussion on a temporary safe zone at the next meeting.

In a report released today (January 27) by Executive Director Victoria Fahlberg , 52 people have gone through the intake process and four of them are veterans.
