Bryon White Files to Challenge Danny Robins for Volusia County Council

The Volusia County Council has two contested races so far for the 2026 election cycle. Bryon White has filed to challenge incumbent Danny Robins for the District 3 seat next year, while non-incumbents Nancy Miller and Mike Poniatowski have filed for the At-Large seat.

Robins was first elected to the County Council in 2020 to fill out the last two years of Deb Denys' term after she left to run for County Chair.  He won re-election in 2022, defeating challenger Ted Noftall. He is seeking another term in 2026.

Bryon White is a former ocean rescue lifeguard and EMT who was Beach Safety Captain for the Volusia County government for his final four of almost seventeen years on the job. He's also the founder of Yaupon Brothers American Tea.

White first made waves in local news while working with the Volusia Waterman's Association, when he clashed with Sheriff Mike Chitwood over legislation to dissolve public safety forces in unincorporated areas. In announcing his campaign on social media over the weekend, White said he is "100% focused on local issues", such as the rate of development, flooding concerns, and conservation.

Also up for election in 2026 are the District 1 seat held by Don Dempsey and the At-Large seat held by Jake Johansson. For the latter, Johannson has indicated he'll be seeking election to the state legislature instead of running for a second term.
