Census Bureau Hiring Paid Census Takers

Daytona Beach, FL - The United States Census Bureau needs 500,000 more people to help with the 2020 census, and they're willing to pay Volusia and Flagler residents over $14 an hour for their time.

The goal for the bureau is to recruit temporary workers beginning in the spring of 2020, and filling the jobs is crucial to ensuring an accurate and complete census.

“We need people to apply now so they can be considered for part-time census taker positions next spring,” said Timothy Olson, Census Bureau associate director for Field Operations, in a release. “Recent high school graduates, veterans, retirees, military spouses, seasonal workers and applicants who are bilingual are highly encouraged to apply. It’s important we hire people in every community in order to have a complete and accurate census.”

Flagler residents interested in becoming a census taker for the 2020 Census can make $14.50 an hour. Volusia residents can make more with $16 an hour. Workers in both counties can also be reimbursed for work-related mileage and expenses.

The selection process for positions begins in January, with paid training occurring in March and April. Actual enumeration of non-responding households throughout the nation begins in May through early July.

Census takers that are hired will work in their local communities and go door to door to collect responses from those who do not respond to the 2020 Census online, by phone or by mail.

These positions offer competitive pay, flexible hours, paid training and weekly paychecks.
