Daytona Beach, FL - It's time again for the United States Census to take place and pretty soon census takers will hit the streets of Florida to get a count.

As of right now, 62.8% of Volusia County residents have already completed census questionnaires. That means census takers still have about 78,000 households to visit in the county.

However, seeing as there is still the matter of the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, there is a way to keep census takers from knocking at your door.

According to Barbara Girtman, Volusia County Council District 1 Representative and Co-Chair of the Volusia County Complete Count Committee, you can complete your household's census form online or over the phone. Those who wish to complete the form online can do so by visitng My2020census.gov or by calling 844-330-2020.

Girtman also stressed the importance of the 2020 Census, and the COVID-19 pandemic is a good example as to why, since emergency funds are affected by the reported population of the area.

"It matters for any future challenges that we have that we have as many people counted so they know how much help and resources are needed," said Girtman to News Daytona Beach.

For those who prefer the help of a census taker, there will also be protocols in place to make sure you are protected for when they come knocking at your door,

All census takers – who are hired locally – will wear face masks and follow local health guidelines when they visit homes. According to a release from the VCCC, census takers complete COVID-19 training on social distancing and other health protocols. They will also never ask to enter your home, and they will not ask for money.

When they come to your door, be sure that they have an ID badge with their photograph, a U.S. Department of Commerce watermark and an expiration date. Workers may also carry a bag with the Census Bureau logo. If you are unsure about who they are, call 800-923-8282 to speak with a Census Bureau representative.
