Deltona, FL - The city of Deltona celebrates its Silver Anniversary this year and the kickoff party happens tomorrow. Residents will get a glimpse at Deltona's history, receive a commemorative pin and light refreshments. The anniversary committee will unveil a video about Deltona, a website showcasing the anniversary and a student contest related to Deltona's anniversary year.
The issue of incorporation in Deltona was discussed as early as 1969, but incorporation attempts failed in 1987 and again in 1990. The third and final attempt came in 1995 and the “committee to incorporate” won by over 1,000 votes and at 12:01 a.m. on Dec. 31, 1995, Deltona became a city.
City staff and community supporters plan to incorporate the celebration into the City's list of annual activities. There are also plans to add more events.
The events have been sponsored by Halifax/UF Health Medical Center of Deltona. Tomorrow's celebration begins at 10 as.m. at Deltona City Hall.
