County Leaders To Discuss Food Distribution In Volusia

Posted

DeLand, FL - Next Tuesday (March 16th), Volusia County leaders will discuss a contract that could help the county distribute food and household supplies to residents as the COVID-19 pandemic continues.

If approved at their next meeting, Volusia will enter into a nearly $320,000 contract with Food Brings Hope, a local 501(c)3 public charity founded by local businesswoman and philanthropist, Forough B. Hosseini.

Funds, according to the county's agenda item, will come from the county's Coronavirus Relief Transition fund,  earmarked for a food distribution manager, administrative expenses, and supplies.

In addition to food, household supplies will also be distributed to residents. Those supplies include disinfecting and sanitizing wipes, sprays and cleaners, gloves, masks, paper towels, garbage bags, diapers and baby wipes. Additional items could become available if they are approved by County Manager George Recktenwald.

Information regarding times and locations is not yet available, but the county's agenda item said distribution will most likely be limited to residents who are unemployed or underemployed and have experienced or are experiencing unreimbursed negative financial consequences of the pandemic.

The next Volusia County Council meeting is set for March 16th. Public comments begin at 9:30 a.m.
