COVID-19 Vaccinations On The Rise

Posted

Daytona Beach, FL - The number of COVID-19 vaccinations in the U.S. has been on the rise since the Delta variant made its appearance in June 2021. Now that the Pfizer-BioNTech COVID-19 Vaccine (which will be marketed as Comirnaty) has been given full approval for people 16 years of age and older, the vaccination numbers are expected to increase even more.

Locally, a nurse assistant at Century Clinical Family Medicine in Daytona Beach, said that they've seen the same type of increase. "When the surge itself came, with the Delta and the new variant, people started calling and scheduling to get the vaccine more because of the rise. That's when we saw the real surge and more so now with the FDA approval."

According to the Center for Infectious Disease Research and Policy (CIDRAP) at the University of Minnesota,  "the 10,991 Americans who died of COVID-19 in the first 18 days of August number more than all the COVID-19 fatalities in June or July." CIDRAP said that as of last Thursday, August 19, "more than 1 million doses of the COVID-19 vaccine were administered—the first time since early July that the country hit that mark."
