Daily COVID-19 Update For Volusia County

DeLand, FL - Volusia County Government kicked off daily briefings yesterday to provide the public with updated COVID-19 information.

The briefings are streamed live each day on the Volusia County Emergency Management Facebook page and feature different department heads and other county officials.

Department of Health Volusia Director Patricia Boswell said the state is working to develop a system to count recoveries. "Recovered cases can be reported in several different manners. Is it someone who has been a case and then recovered after 14 days? Is it related to hospital discharge data?"

Dr. Joe Smith, Chief Medical Officer at AdventHealth DeLand said he’s seen a great response from the community to minimize the surge. "We continue to see that the number of COVID-19 infections or coronavirus infections in Volusia County remains stable to declining."

Volusia Sheriff Mike Chitwood talked about helping those in need.  "On Friday, May 1, from 4 until 7 at the Kitchen Gallery in Ormond Beach, come by and donate food items for the food pantry. Saturday, from 9. until 12, at the Port Orange City Center, you can do the same thing, or you can do like I did and write them a check."

This morning, a regularly scheduled County Council meeting begins at 10 a.m.
