Daytona Beach, FL - A new report released by the Daytona Beach Police Department shows that officers responded to nearly 170 crashes and made over 130 arrests during the city's 80th running of Bike Week.
According to the report, the total number of crashes officers responded to was 167, which involved 53 motorcycles and five fatal incidents in the Daytona city limits. Most of the crashes—102 to be exact—took place in District 1 of Daytona Beach—which consists of anything in the Daytona Beach city limits west of the railroad tracks—while 65 took place in the eastern parts of the city, or District 2—which includes the riverside and beachside areas of Daytona.
Throughout the 10 days of Bike Week, Daytona Beach police also made 135 arrests. 49 of those arrests were for "creation of noise," while 19 pertained to disorderly conduct. Officers also made 11 DUI arrests and seven open container arrests. 49 other arrests were labeled as "other" by the police department, with no exact definition.
Officers also issued 330 citations. 244 of those citations were issued in District 2 of the city, while 86 were issued in District 1. Broken down, 157 citations were made out to motorcycle operators, while 173 citations were issued to other vehicles. Officers also tallied 28 DUI arrests in the city.
