Daytona Beach, FL - A 69-year-old Daytona Beach woman did not survive her injuries after she was hit by a 2013 four-door Lincoln MKZ yesterday (July 27) afternoon. The driver of the car, a 36-year-old Daytona Beach man, stopped immediately and stayed on scene to speak with investigators.

Officers responded to the scene of the accident in the 600 block of South Ridgewood Avenue (near Cedar Street) around 5:45 p.m. in response to multiple 9-1-1 calls from bystanders. First responders  found the woman unconscious on the ground on the east side of Ridgewood. She was taken from the sene as a trauma alert to Halifax Health Medical Center. The woman underwent surgery for various injuries but died later that evening.

Investigators say the Lincoln was traveling north in the right-hand lane in heavy rain when the front of the car hit the woman as she was attempting to cross Ridgewood on foot from west to east. No one else was in the car and the driver was not injured.

The driver told detectives that he was traveling around 20 to 25 miles per hour because the heavy rain caused poor visibility. He said he did not see the woman until she was right in front of the car. The victim was not using a marked crosswalk.

At this time, there are no charges pending against the driver but a final determination will be made when the investigation is complete.
