DBPD Investigation Into Accidental Shooting Of 10-Year-Old Continues

UPDATE (08-28-19): An update from Messod Bendayan, the Public Information Officer for the Daytona Beach Police Department, confirms that the boy passed away yesterday afternoon in the hospital.

Daytona Beach, FL - A 10-year-old Daytona Beach boy is in critical condition at Arnold Palmer Children's Hospital after he was shot on Saturday (August 24) evening. Daytona Beach Police Department Public Information Officer Messod Bendayan reports that the shooting is believed to be accidental.

DBPD officers were called to a home in the 200 block of South Keech Street at around 8:25 p.m. after receiving a 9-1-1 call. Bystanders directed officers to a bedroom inside the house where they found the boy shot and lying on the floor near the bed. According to Bendayan, the shooter is a 14-year-old boy.

The victim was first taken to Halifax Health Medical Center than taken by helicopter to Arnold Palmer Children's Hospital. At last report, the boy is still in critical condition.

The weapon believed to be used in the incident was recovered at the scene. The investigation is open and ongoing. At this time, there are no charges pending.
