DeLand Man Dies In Main Street Bridge Accident

Daytona Beach, FL - The Daytona Beach Police Department is reporting a motorcycke accident that ended the life of 42-year-old Sandusky Mccartney of DeLand.

Public Information Officer Messod Bendayan said the accident happened just after midnight Sunday (January 26). The Traffic Homcide Unit believes that McCartney was riding his 2010 Harley Davidson westbound on the Main Street Bridge. Investigators think McCartney did not realize traffic was stopped on the bridge. The report says that a 2011 Chevy Silverado was stopped just after you come over the crest of the bridge. They believe McCartney ran into the back of the pickup.

Investigators say the impact of the incident ejected McCartney from the motorcycle. He landed in the eastbound lanes. He was not wearing a helmet. Paramedics pronounced McCartney deceased shortly after they arrived. The driver of the pickup and his passenger were not injured.

The bridge was closed to through traffic for several hours while investigators gathered evidence. The motorcyle and pickup were removed from the scene are being held as evidence. At this time, no criminal charges are pending.
