DeLand, FL - DeLand and Ponce Inlet recently made a list that showcases some of the state's beautiful small towns and cities.
The recognition comes from Microsoft News' new MSN Lifestyle list, "Florida's beautiful small towns and cities," which includes 30 of the state's smaller treasures. Out of the 30 cities mentioned, DeLand and Ponce Inlet were both placed near the bottom of the list, with DeLand at 30 and Ponce Inlet at 28.
In DeLand's listing, author Frances Carruthers highlights DeLand's iconic architecture of red-brick buildings and "oak-lined streets." Carruthers continued by saying while the Athens of Florida "may be more New England than Ancient Greece," there's still plenty of charm to find in the town's small local businesses, such as it's antique stores, independent breweries.
Ponce Inlet was, to no surprise, recognized partially by the town's iconic lighthouse, which was also highlighted for being the tallest lighthouse in the state and one of the most well preserved historic light stations in the country; and just one of 11 included on the National Historic Landmark list.
The listing additionally discussed Ponce Inlet's draw to anglers, saying the town is a "fishing hub in past and present times" with plenty of oceanfront restaurants serving up the catch of the day.
St. Augustine also made the list in the number 3 spot, just behind Naples and Seaside. And don't forget to check out the list for yourself.
