DeLand, FL - Volusia's county seat earns some praise in a popular magazine's newest deep dive into the south's best small towns.
That praise comes from DeLand's new spot on one of Southern Living's recently published lists, "The South's Best Small Towns."
The Birmingham, Alabama-based magazine put DeLand 20th out of 20 other cities featured. They cited the views of DeLand's springs and the usual manatee congregation at Blue Springs that happens as temperatures drop around the state as justification for the city's inclusion. They also mentioned DeLand's multiple historical spots, such as Historic Downtown DeLand, Stetson University and the Athens Theater.
The only other Florida city mention in Southern Living's new list was DeLand's westerly neighbor, Mount Dora, which came in 11th out of 20.
The top five cities include Fredericksburg, Virginia, Franklin, Tennessee, Fairhope, Alabama, Beaufort, South Carolina and Williamsburg, Virginia.
