Deltona City Commission To Consider Pay Increase For Acting City Manager

Deltona, FL -  Item 8 - A on tonight's Deltona City Commission agenda is a request from Acting City Manager John Peters III to increase his compensation based on his Superior to Excellent evaluations. That's according to his contract. His first annual review, which was addressed during the Nov. 1 commission meeting, saw him receive an average score of 4.3 out of five.

Section 2 (B) of the Acting City Manager’s Contract states that he should receive an annual increase commensurate with those of other City Directors in Volusia County. Peters is asking for an increase of $4,680 which equals the approved hourly increase for all employees of $2.25.

Peters included an analysis of Volusia County City Manager’s Compensation, which shows that the Acting City Manager currently receives approximately $1,469 per year less than the Volusia County average for a car allowance.  In addition, Peters stated in his request, that he "would prefer to only utilize his personal phone, and the average compensation for a phone is $1,100 annually."Peters was also evaluated in April and July, as per his contract. He received a $2,500 bump in pay at the time of each of those reviews for earning satisfactory evaluations.

Peters request includes three options:

1.  Authorize a compensation adjustment consisting of an annual salary of $169,680, a car allowance of $6,269 and a phone allowance of $1,100 in accordance with Section 2 (B) and (C).

2.  Authorize in increase in annual salary of $169,680 in accordance with Section 2 (B).

3.  Authorize a compensation adjustment that the Commission deems appropriate based on the Annual Evaluations.

Tonight's meeting begins at 6:30 p.m.
