Deltona, FL - Deltona City Commissioners are putting an incentive package for an as yet unknown company on hold, for now. During a special City Commission meeting on Thursday (December 19) morning, they voted unanimously to not go forward with a $2.5 million incentive package for what's known as Project Normandy.
The meeting was called in order for the mystery company to reveal itself. A number of residents showed up for the meeting specifically for that information but were disappointed when told that the company will not reveal itself until it closes on the property where it plans to put the $100 million project.
City Commissioners shared their misgivings about signing an agreement with a company they do not know the name of. Commissioner Chris Nabicht said that he believes in the package and what it will bring to the city. But, he says, "I am uncomfortable with there not being transparency on who the client is when we're talking about giving this amount of money, rebating it back to them."
The Commission did approve the incentive package unanimously during the regular meeting earlier in the week but did it conditionally with final approval taking place when the company planning the 1.4 million-square-foot distribution center revealed its identity.
The next regular Deltona City Commission meeting is scheduled for January 6, 2020.
