Deltona, FL - A Deltona Middle School teacher was already facing charges for his conduct with a student, now he’s facing additional charges for trying to keep people quiet about it.

The teacher in question, Carlos Aguirre Rendon, was arrested by the Volusia Sheriff’s Office (VSO) on Wednesday (Feb. 2). He was ultimately charged with lewd or lascivious conduct and witness tampering in the investigation of his conduct with a 15-year-old female student.

The investigation into Rendon kicked off on January 11, when deputies learned Rendon kissed the girl on the lips in his classroom. The victim’s parents already had prior concerns about their daughter and Rendon, as they saw him with his arm around her at a park once before.

Witnesses have also told investigators that Rendon often wanted to be alone with the victim and seemed to be pursuing a relationship with her outside of their usual contact. Then, deputies learned Rendon had approached a number of witnesses and asked about the victim and told them not to talk to police.

Rendon was arrested and booked into the Volusia County Jail on a $12,500 bond. The sheriff’s office says he has since been released after posting bond. Additional charges are pending in the investigation.

The Volusia County Clerk of Courts says Rendon was scheduled to appear before a judge Thursday afternoon (Feb. 3). His arraignment date has been set for March 3.
