DeLand, FL - The Volusia Sheriff's Office is investigating after a food pantry in DeLand was broken into.

According to a report from investigators, at some point between January 13th and 14th, a burglar, or burglars, broke into the DeLand Open Bible Church Ministry Center's food pantry.

Pastor Thomas Avinger, who works at the church, told deputies that he found the food pantry rummaged through and saw various items thrown on the floor. Avinger also found that various meats and steaks valued at $500 had been stolen.

Some refrigerators were found to be unplugged, but Avinger and other staff at the church were able to save the food.

If you would like to help restock the food pantry, Pastor Avinger says donating money to the church or Second Harvest Food Bank is preferable. You may contact the church at (386) 736-7100 and Second Harvest Food Bank of Central Florida at (407) 295-1066

Additionally, if you have any information on the break in, you can call the Volusia Sheriff's Office.
