DeBary, FL - Investigators are searching for leads after someone broke into DeBary Elementary School and vandalized part of the campus.

According to the Volusia Sheriff's Office, deputies were called to the school around 10 a.m. yesterday (April 21st) with reports of an overnight burglary.

When law enforcement arrived they met with the school's assistant principal. He told deputies that he originally reported an incident that occurred over the weekend after hours at the school. His narrative states that he received a call around 11 o'clock Monday night (April 20th) from his secretary who said a fire alarm went off at the school.

He then responded to the school and made contact with his secretary, who stated the fire department arrived and shut off the alarm. Afterwards, he made contact with a night shift deputy and walked the school campus where the fire alarm went off, to verify the doors were secured.

He and the deputy partially walked the interior but did not see anything out of place on their patrol. They continued to work the perimeter of the inner courtyard of the school but did not observe anything else out of the ordinary.

However, when the assistant principal arrived the next morning, another faculty member walked into his office and said that someone had vandalized the teacher's lounge. In the lounge, he observed multiple fire extinguishers with their contents all over the floor. With both incidents occurring relatively close to each other, he called the sheriff's office again to file another report.

The case is still open and active. If anyone has any information, they're urged to contact the Volusia Sheriff's Office immediately.
