UPDATE: Law enforcement has since identified the suspect as 37-year-old Gregory Howe.

Deltona, FL - An unidentified man is gunned down by Volusia deputies after pulling out a rifle following a chase through DeLand and down to Deltona.
According to Volusia Sheriff Mike Chitwood, the DeLand Police Department attempted a traffic stop on a white truck for a violation. During that stop, officers determined that the driver had a suspended license.
When asked to step out of the vehicle, the driver took off and tried fleeing from police. The officer called in the chase and soon the Volusia Sheriff's Office and Air One became involved. Additionally, Sheriff Chitwood said stop sticks took out two of his tires, but that did not stop the vehicle.
Eventually, the chase made it back to the man's home in Deltona off of Haversham Road. The man pulled into the driveway while four deputies began to pull in alongside him. However, as they did, the driver pulled out what seemed to be an AK-47 style rifle and pointed it out of his window.
That's when all four deputies opened fire on the truck. The driver stepped out after being shot, but soon collapsed on the driveway and passed away from his injuries while the truck rolled backwards down the driveway.
Aditionally, Sheriff Chitwood noted that the unidentified man matches the description of a shooter involved in an Orange City homicide back on April 27th. In that homicide, a woman was shot in the chest with a .40 caliber weapon. The driver killed in today's incident was also found with a .40 caliber handgun and a rifle on May 1st, and was subsequently arrested that day by the Daytona Beach Police Department.
The Volusia Sheriff's Office plans on sending more information at a later time. We'll update this story as soon as those details are made available.
