Lehigh Acres, FL - A Lee County deputy is injured and a suspect is dead following a shooting on Thursday (March 17).
Reports say that the deputy sustained a gunshot wound to the shoulder and is expected to be ok. The Lee County Sheriff’s Office says the deputy was attempting to stop a stolen car he found on patrol. After conducting a traffic stop, the suspect got out of the car and shot the deputy. The deputy returned fire, killing the suspect.
The shooting occurred near the intersection of State Road 82 and Gunnery Road. The deputy underwent surgery after being shot. Details about the shooting are still scarce as deputies continue to investigate.
