Daytona Beach, FL - New findings from the Florida Department of Health (DOH) say over 9.5 million people have been vaccinated as vaccine availability continues to open up around the country.

As of Sunday (May 16) afternoon, 9,577,875 people received a vaccine in the state. Of that grand total, 2,023,060 have received their first dose while 7,554,815 have finished their vaccine series; be it the single-shot Johnson & Johnson/Janssen (J&J) vaccine or the two-part Pfizer or Moderna series.

Out of the people who have received all of their shots, 683,220 received the J&J vaccine while 6,871,595  received the Pfizer or Moderna vaccine. Additionally, 229,772 out-of-state individuals have been vaccinated in Florida and almost half of them have received all of their vaccinations (149,088).

According to the DOH, 3,772,973 seniors have been vaccinated in the state. Out of those 3.7 million seniors, the 65-74 age bracket remains the most vaccinated group in the state with 2,138,270 vaccinated individuals.

Locally, 228,399 people have been vaccinated in Volusia while 54,092 have been vaccinated in Flagler. In Volusia County, 45,082 people have received their first shot while 183,317 have finished their series. In Flagler, 9,401 have started their vaccine series while 44,691 have finished.

Over the past couple of weeks, pharmacies and organizations—including DOH-Volusia—have announced walk-in COVID-19 vaccination events, or decided to open up walk-in vaccinations fully, making vaccines more available to those who have not been able to schedule an appointment.

Last Monday (May 10), the Food and Drug Administration also lowered the age one can receive a COVID-19 vaccine to 12, but only for the Pfizer vaccine.
