Domestic Violence Awareness Month Ends On Positive Note With 'Purple Night Out'

Posted

Daytona Beach, FL - October is Domestic Violence Awareness Month. The Beacon Center of Daytona Beach is holding 'Purple Night Out' this Friday, October 30.  The event takes place at Jackie Robinson Ballpark from 5 p.m. until 8 p.m.

The Beacon Center is an agency that helps domestic violence survivors with emergency shelter, legal help, information, referral services, and other needed services. You can contact them online by clicking here.  You can call at 386-257-2297 if you're in need of help or to volunteer.

Angie Pye, Chief Executive Officer of the Beacon Center, says that a lot of things are contained within the price of a ticket for the event. "Your ticket price includes your food, so there'll be an option for a hot dog, hamburger, chips, and a drink. We're going to be doing kids' games. We have some carnival-style games. They're free for children to play and all of the community booths will be giving out candy."

There's a costume contest for everyone in the family, from the adults to the kids, to the pets. Pye says there will be prizes in a number of categories.

According to Pye, 'Purple Night Out' is a big fundraiser for the Beacon Center.  "All the funds raised support services for victims of domestic violence here in Volusia County. All of our services are free, all of our services are confidential. When somebody comes to live in our emergency shelter, we provide all their basic needs."
