Don Petito, Flagler Fire Chief, Retires After 15 Years

Bunnell, FL - After serving Flagler County for over a decade, Flagler County Fire Rescue Chief Don Petito retires.

Petito, who served as chief for 15 years, announced his retirement Wednesday morning (July 15th).

According to Julie Murphy, spokesperson for Flagler County, Petito is credited with improving the county's Emergency Medical Services. Those improvements included adding a medical director, creating a Community Paramedicine program, becoming a state-certified EMS training site, developing a community CPR training calendar, and, becoming a Regional Training Center for the American Heart Association.

Under his leadership, Flagler County trained a world champion EMS Competition Team that took three titles in the Czech Republic, on top of being a three-time Florida State Champion with championship titles in Georgia, Iowa and New York.

“Don Petito made a tremendous impact on Fire Rescue services in Flagler County during his 15 year tenure,” said County Administrator Jerry Cameron in a release. “We look forward to tapping into his considerable expertise in the future.”

Petito is also known for developing Flagler's fire department academy and creating the Marine Rescue Program and the Urban Search and Rescue team.
