Ormond Beach, FL - A 61-year-old man is in custody after police say he killed a man and left the scene of the accident.
Ormond Beach police report that the incident happened just before 6:30 this past Saturday night (November 30th). Around that time, a 2007 Saturn SUV headed westbound on West Granada Boulevard struck a pedestrian trying to cross the road in a mobility scooter.
Police say that the driver exited the vehicle to look at the victim before getting back into his vehicle and driving off. The victim was identified as 84-year-old Kenneth Daniel Strickler, who later died in the hospital as a result of his injuries.
The SUV was located later on as it turned into the Wawa gas station off of Granada. The driver, Kevin Zoekler, was detained and subsequently arrested.
This investigation is still ongoing.
