Deltona, FL - What started as a traffic stop for a seatbelt violation turns into a life-threatening crash for the driver that tried to flee.

Volusia Sheriff's Office attempted to pull over a white Camaro near Elkcam and Providence Boulevards yesterday morning (January 9th). As the deputy tried to pull him over, the driver, who has been identified as a 26-year-old Orlando man, fled from law enforcement.

The driver fled west on Elkcam and then to Normandy. Multiple deputies spotted the driver but none of them initiated a pursuit.

A few minutes later, the Camaro driver hit a black Volkswagen Beetle at the intersection of Howland Boulevard and Wolfpack Run.

The 18-year-old driver of the Volkswagen suffered non-life-threatening injuries as a result of the crash. The Camaro driver, however, was unresponsive at the scene.

Both were taken to Central Florida Regional Hospital in Sanford, where the Camaro driver was listed in critical condition.

VSO said his identity will not be released at this time, as their waiting to notify his family members. No condition update was available as of this morning (January 10th).
