Eight County Crime Spree Ends In Flagler County

Palm Coast, FL - Acting on an alert received on Sunday (February 23), Flagler County Sheriff's deputies spotted a black Camaro that had been involved in a burglary in another county. In the car were 26-year-old Que'sean Phillips and 27-year-old Algernon Leeks.

Deputies first attempted a traffic stop while the Camaro was traveling east on Palm Coast Parkway. They followed when the driver refused to stop, observing it running red lights, speeding, and driving into oncoming traffic while trying to avoid law enforcement.

The driver got on I-95 in the southbound lanes, traveled to S.R. 100, made a U-turn into the northbound lanes. A second traffic stop was successful just before the Palm Coast Parkway exit.  Since the car chase made it a felony traffic stop, the two men in the car were immediately detained.

Further investigation determined that the car was a rental and that the tag on it was reported stolen in Orlando.  The correct tag for the car was found in the back seat.

The passenger, Leeks, was removed from the car covered in green leafy crumbs. The substance tested positive as marijuana.

Deputies then completed a probable cause search of the car finding a total of 29 I.D. cards, Social Security cards, and bank cards in the glovebox. Most of them came from a string of smash and grab vehicle burglaries that took place in Polk County, Orlando PD, Orange County, Highlands County, Hillsborough County, Manatee County, Citrus County, Altamonte Springs PD, Pasco County, Plant City PD, and Osceola County.

Because Phillips was listed on the car's rental agreement, he's on the receiving end of the stiffer charges.  He's charged with Fleeing to Elude, Petit Theft, and Reckless Driving with bond set at $6.000. Leeks is charged with Marijuana Possession and a $500 bond. Both have already bonded out of jail.
