Bunnell, FL - Flagler County Sheriff's Office Cold Case Detective Andrew Cangialosi is making progress in several cold cases. He's the first full-time detective assigned to the dedicated Cold Case Unit since it was launched in late summer.
Cangialosi has identified evidence from a couple of cases that have been re-evaluated and has sent that evidence for additional testing. Evidence from the 2013 stabbing death of Dennie Cayton, whose body was found in a marshy area in Palm Coast, has been sent out for additional DNA processing as well as having cellular data that is being reexamined by the FCSO Digital Forensics Unit.
Evidence from two homicides from the 1990s, where two women died in similar circumstances is being evaluated for additional DNA analysis. The victims, Andrea Ford (AKA Andrea Daniluk) and Dawn Petterson, were both shot to death with firearms sharing similar ballistic characteristics. Each was found along the side of a road in two different locations within Flagler County.
“Cases like these and the small list of other unsolved cases of homicides, missing persons and sex crimes are what led to the creation of the Cold Case Unit,” Sheriff Rick Staly said. “When you take into account how much science, technology, and DNA testing has changed in recent years, it was time to dedicate the resources needed to re-open and review these cases and bring closure to the victims and their families. It is my hope that through this new unit - no matter how long it takes - that violent offenders will be taken off the streets and be held accountable for their actions.”
