UPDATE: Further investigation by Florida Highway Patrol reveals that the 30-year-old Palm Coast man was struck by his own vehicle and was not ejected.

According to a new narrative from investigators, the Palm Coast man and his passenger, a 26-year-old Daytona Beach woman, exited their vehicle after the initial crash.

As the third involved vehicle—the 2006 Hyundai Tucson driven by a 20-year-old Asatula man—approached the crash scene they struck the rear of the deceased's vehicle as they were not able to see it, causing the vehicle to hit the Palm Coast man, who later died.

Deltona, FL - Troopers are investigating a crash on eastbound I-4 that claimed the life of a 30-year-old Palm Coast man.

Florida Highway Patrol (FHP) says the man, who was driving a 2014 Chevy Impala, was headed eastbound on I-4 just before 4:00 Friday (May 28) morning when he crashed into the rear of a 2017 Toyota Camry, driven by a 63-year-old Deltona woman.

After colliding with the rear of the woman's car, the Palm Coast man's vehicle continued to travel until it was struck by a 20-year-old Asatula man driving a 2006 Hyundai Tucson. The Palm Coast man was ejected from his vehicle and was later pronounced dead on the scene.

The woman driving the damaged Toyota also left the roadway after the crash and continued until she struck a guardrail. The remaining drivers, and a passenger in the deceased's vehicle, suffered only minor injuries.

To investigate the crash, troopers closed eastbound I-4 at Exit 104 in Seminole County and began to direct traffic off the highway. As of 8:00 a.m., the highway remains closed.
