First-Time Home Buyer Program Available For Volusia County Residents

DeLand, FL - First-time homebuyer virtual classes begin this week in Volusia County. The University of Florida/Volusia County Extension is offering pre-purchase homebuyer workshops that meet the education requirement for those participating in the program. 

Extension Agent Lisa Hamilton, a HUD-certified housing counselor and accredited financial counselor, will instruct virtual classes at these times:

  • 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Oct. 7 and 8 (in Spanish)
  • 5 to 9 p.m.  Oct. 21 and 28
  • 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Nov. 13
  • 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Dec. 3 and 10

The Zoom classes consist of eight hours of education. The cost is $10 per household. Scholarships are available upon request.

Participants will receive a certificate of completion that will enable them to apply for a federal down payment and closing cost assistance program available through Volusia County, Seminole County and the City of Deltona.
