Flagler County Follows State's Lead Against Coronavirus

Bunnell, FL - Flagler County officials are enacting two new Emergency Orders following the lead today (March 30) of Florida Governor Ron DeSantis. The first suspends vacation rental operations.  The second adds Louisiana to the states that have substantial community spread of COVID-19. This requires people entering Florida from those states to self-quarantine for a period of 14 days from entry.

Flagler County Emergency Management Director Jonathan Lord led the webinar that can be seen on Facebook by clicking here.  He said that “These Emergency Orders will allow us to issue 2nd degree misdemeanor citations for those who fail to comply with these local and state measures.” He also said, “Vacation rentals also run the risk of having their local certificates terminated if they are out of compliance.”

Lord spoke about the fact that people are still not following the rules and that state and local governments do not want to add additional restrictions but will if necessary. "We are put in the uncomfortable position of having to increase restrictions in order to protect our community."

Flagler County Administrator Jerry Cameron said the fine for a ticket issued to those gathering in large groups is $500 and up to 60 days in jail. "We're going to have to take those measures. It's a shame to have to address a health issue with that sort of approach. But, if you leave us no choice, that's exactly what we're going to have to do."

Flagler County Commission Chair Dave Sullivan spoke about the great job being done by everyone. He said that residents should be glad to have them. "We're very thankful for the wonderful, professional team, headed by Jonathan, Jerry Cameron and Bob Snyder.  They're running things, they know what they're doing. They're highly professional and I want everyone to feel they have tremendous confidence in what's going on right now."
