Flagler County Schools Begins New Superintendent Search

Bunnell, FL - The School Board of Flagler County is launching the search for a new Superintendent of Schools. Current superintendent James Tager, who was hired in 2017, announced his retirement earlier this year. His contract ends on June 30, 2020.

Community Information Specialist Jason Wheeler said that the Flagler School Board will use the same agency, Florida School Boards Association, that Volusia County used to conduct their search.

There is an online survey available to everyone in Flagler County that wants to weigh in on the search. Wheeler said all information on the Superintendent search, along with the survey, can be found at the Flagler Schools website. The survey will close on November 22.

If you do go to the website, you'll see a section titled, "Applicant Cover Letters & Resumes." You won't find anything there yet as the application process does not begin until December.

Wheeler says that an Internal Focus Group meeting, specifically for Flagler Schools employees, is scheduled for Wednesday, October 30. A Community Forum for all others is scheduled for Tuesday, November 19. Both forums will take place at Buddy Taylor Middle School in Palm Coast and both of them begin at 6 p.m.

The timeline laid out by the Flagler County School Board calls for naming a new Superintendent of Schools by March 17, 2020. That person's projected start date will be June 1 in order for them to work with Superintendent Tager prior to his retirement date of June 30.
