Flagler County's Special Needs Registry Cause For An Award

Posted

Bunnell, FL -Streamlining and customizing Flagler County's special needs registry has led to the county being recognized with a Critical Event Management Impact Award. Emergency Management Director Jonathan Lord says that the system is specific to Flagler County. It benefits the residents but it also benefits the county, helping them to keep better track of residents who need it.

Lord said the registry lets people with special medical needs to pre-register for evacuation and sheltering assistance during any kind of disaster in the county. It's very easy to get on the registry if you're computer-savvy. Go to the Flagler County website, flaglercounty.org/specialneeds. You can also get a paper form to fill out by calling them at 386-313-4200.

Flagler County was in good company, with other honorees including an Emergency Management team that helped bring a missing three-year-old girl home within eight minutes after an alert was issued and a Florida county that suffered a direct hit from Category 5 Hurricane Michael that was able to get critical information to residents about evacuations, boil water notices, and food sites.

Besides the special needs registry, there is also ALERTFlagler, which is a no-cost countywide service that allows residents to sign up for a number of emergency notifications based on their address. You can get to the page on the Flagler county website by clicking here.
