Bunnell, FL - A new report shows that Flagler has some of the lowest crime rates seen around the state for a county its size.
That's according to the 2019 Semi-Annual Uniform Crime Report from the Florida Department of Law Enforcement. That same report shows Florida's crime rate dropped by 6.1% in the first six months of 2019 compared to the first six months of 2018.
Flagler's crime rate dropped almost three times the state average, declining by 15.1%. Total Index Crimes are down 11% from the same period in 2018. Aggravated assault is down 9.8%, Larceny is down 17.8% and Burglary went down 10.9%.
Overall, both violent and property crimes are down.
“Our initiatives are working and these numbers prove that,” Flagler Sheriff Rick Staly said.
Throughout the state, Flagler has the fourth-largest drop in crime in counties with similar population sizes (over 100,000). Charlotte, Lee and Palm Beach counties saw higher drops.
