Flagler Schools Postpones Start Of Fall Sports

Posted

Bunnell, FL - As the time to head back to school draws near, one school district announces that the start of fall sports will be delayed.

According to a release from Flagler County Schools, the decision to postpone the start of fall sports came after the Florida High School Athletic Association voted not to make any changes to the fall sports calendar at the state level. Following that decision, the FHSAA gave schools the discretion to make adjustments "according to local circumstances."

That's when Flagler Schools made the decision to postpone the start of fall sports until further notice.

Jason Wheeler, spokesperson for Flagler County Schools, said conditioning programs will continue as planned with safety guidelines in place. However, practices and tryouts will not begin on Monday (July 27th) as originally planned.

Despite the start date being postponed, Flagler Schools has not canceled the full fall sports season.

"Flagler Schools encourages our potential athletes to complete their online Athletic Clearance so that they may participate in conditioning and be ready for tryouts, practices, and competitions when they are allowed to resume," wrote Wheeler in a release from the school district. "Again, each head coach can help our families with this process."

Fall sports for Flagler include football, bowling, golf, swimming, cross country, and volleyball.

In the meantime, Wheeler said staff will continue to work with school administrators and athletic directors to monitor and reevaluate protocols.
