Bunnell, FL - The Flagler County School Board is scheduled to make the final selection for Superintendent at a special meeting on March 10. But first, the four candidates will be interviewed publicly and privately.

Jason Wheeler, Community Specialist for Flagler Schools said, Vernon Orndorff and Dr. Janet Womack are coming in from Texas today.  Dr. Earl Johnson and Cathy Mittlestadt are both local.

Wheeler says things get underway early tomorrow, at 8 a.m. with interviews that allow the public to attend. They take place in the Training Room 3 of the Government Services Building in Bunnell.

The schedule for the public interviews is as follows:

  • Vernon Orndorff 8:30 am - 10:00 am
  • Dr. Janet Womack 10:30 am - 12:00pm
  • Cathy Mittelstadt 1:15 pm - 2:45 pm
  • Dr. Earl Johnson 3:15 pm - 4:45 pm

After the round of interviews and tours of Flagler County, Wheeler says a Meet and Greet is scheduled for tomorrow night. "All four candidates will get a chance to give their speech to the public.  Then each one will set up in a corner of the room and be available to  speak with members of the community."

The Meet and Greet begins at 6 p.m. in the cafeteria of Buddy Taylor Middle School. If you can't attend the event, Flagler Schools plans to air the public interviews live on the www.flaglerschools.com website.

On Friday, Wheeler said a final round of interviews is planned.  "It's when the one-on-one Board interviews happen. The candidates will be doing a round-robin with each Board member.  This is not open to the public.  This is where the Board can dive in a little bit deeper with each candidate."

After the final selection, it’s on to contract negotiations. The plan is to have the person signed and hired by March 17.
