Flagler Schools Superintendent Search Moves To Next Step

Posted

Bunnell, FL - With 35 qualified applications received for the position of Superintendent of Flagler County Schools, it's time to move to the next step. In a press release, Community Information Specialist Jason Wheeler said that the National Search attracted 31 candidates from across the country. In addition, applications were submitted by a former Flagler Schools administrator, two current administrators from within the District, and a current school board member.

The current school board member, School Board Vice-Chair Dr. Colleen Conklin, will no longer participate in or be privy to any discussions, board actions, or communications related to the search process unless the information is provided or made available to all candidates. School Board Attorney Kristy Gavin is reviewing prior school board meetings where the Board discussed or took action on how the search would proceed.

The next step involves the Citizens Advisory Committee, which has 25 members. School Board members each provided four names for the committee but the ones provided by Dr. Conklin will be removed to ensure impartiality.

Current superintendent James Tager, who was hired in 2017, announced his retirement earlier this year. His contract ends on June 30, 2020.  The timeline laid out by the Flagler County School Board calls for naming a new Superintendent of Schools by March 17, 2020.
